OMEGA By-Laws

        OMEGA CPHS Scholarship Fund

                Organizational Document (Amended 8/10/21)

A tax exempt organization under federal 501c(3) rules:

Article I. Purpose

To collect dues from members and donations from individuals and the community that will support the annual scholarship fund.

Omega was founded in 2011 as a social organization by four individuals who went to grade school together in Cliffside Park and are members of the Cliffside Park graduating class of 1965.  Over the years the group has expanded with members from other classes ranging from 1955 to 1986.  The group meets on a monthly basis for lunch or dinner from September through June.  Omega now has a total membership of over 60 graduates with ties to CPHS.

Article II. Meetings & Correspondence

Meetings/Correspondence will be held informally once a month via phone conference, zoom, and/or e-mail between executive board members.  Official meetings are held once a month with attending members during a lunch/dinner.

Article III. Organization Positions and Duties (Executive Board)

The current administration conducts an election for President/VP on an annual basis.  Members in good standing may run for President (1 year term) twice in non-consecutive years.  The nominees who receive the popular vote are deemed President and the nominee with the second most votes is deemed Vice President.  The Vice President of one year may run for President the following year.  Nominees are proposed by the current President and the membership at large.  The executive board from July 1st - June 30th is comprised of the current administration (President and Vice President) and the original Core Four (Babe Mongilia, Sam Martone, John Papa, and Russ Leonowicz)

As of August 10, 2021 an amendment was created by the executive board to change the method of choosing a President and Vice President on an annual basis.  The current President will seek out a member in good standing order to take over as President for the following year.  In turn that individual who accepts the duties of President will select his Vice President.  Other positions such as Treasurer and Chief of Staff/Press Secretary are life long positions until that individual submits their resignation.

Article IV. Contributions/Donations

All contributions procured by individuals, organizations, and local merchants will be utilized to fund the annual scholarship of a specified dollar amount determined by the officers.   In addition to the annual scholarship if there are sufficient funds in the account OMEGA will continue to donate monies to our other causes.  All current members in good standing will pay annual dues of twenty-five dollars.  Annual dues and increases will be voted on by the membership at the June meeting.  The current President will propose the dollar amount which will be discussed and voted on by the membership.

Article V. Annual Accounting

Each calendar year, a full and complete account of the condition of the Organization shall be made to the Officers. The annual accounting shall take place at the Annual Meeting for the preceding year.  All financial transactions shall be reviewed on an ongoing basis by all officers.

Article VI. Applicants for the “OMEGA CPHS Scholarship Fund”

  • Be a graduating senior of Cliffside Park High School

  • Possess a GPA of 3.5 or greater and will be attending a college to pursue a teaching degree.

  • Requirements:

  1. Completed Application

  2. Copy of transcript from Cliffside Park High School

  3. Essay based on designed topic described below:

 

Essay Topic:  “Explain your post graduation plan and how being the recipient of this scholarship would help towards fulfilling your plan.”  No specific word count.  This essay should be long enough to get your point across to the scholarship committee.

Article VII.  Dissolution Clause

Upon dissolution of the Organization any and all funds that remain in the OMEGA CPHS Scholarship Fund checking account will be donated to the general scholarship fund at Cliffside Park High School, New Jersey.

Article VIII. Bank Account

The Organization may select a bank for the purpose of opening a checking account. Funds in the bank account shall be withdrawn by checks signed by the treasurer of the Organization.  Depositing funds will also be made by the treasurer.

A PNC Bank account exists for the Social organization and its' events.  Dues from this account may be transferred into the Non-Profit account at any time deemed necessary.

A TD Bank account exists purely for fundraising activities functioning as a Non-Profit organization.  From this account, checks can be drawn for charitable contributions and the annual scholarship fund.
